                                      DAN DAVIS FOR CONGRESS -

                                                ON THE ISSUES

JOBS:

In Favor of:

Creation of real jobs, not government jobs. The government can create nothing. It can only displace monies from one party to another. In other words to create a government job, the government takes your hard earned money and gives it to a government employees.Jobs are created by creating an economy based on certainty. Currently businesses are not certain what will happen to them tomorrow. New taxes, such as health care, cap and trade or new regulations, or government take over of industries inform the business community that change is on the way, and likely not change they would like to see. This must be corrected.Substantially reducing corporate taxes will drive investment into the United States. Currently we have the second highest corporate tax rates in the world.Clearly back away from proposed ideas such as cap and trade and current ideas of health care reform proposed by the democrats.Take steps to streamline or eliminate red tape and unnecessary regulations such as current CAFÉ standards. They drive up costs and help lead to safety concerns in automobiles that cut weigh to increase mileage.Take immediate steps to reduce the scope and size of the government and balance the federal budget over the next 10 years.Stop the federal governments endless spending and borrowing of money. When the government borrows they compete with business making it more difficult for them to secure loans.Stop the federal government’s intervention in attempts to control the economy with programs designed to benefits specifics industries but not the economy as a whole, such as “cash for clunkers”.Start a drive for energy independence. Announce plans to drill now. Just the announcement and our movement to begin this process will drive the cost of energy down overnight.

ENERGY:

In Favor of:

In favor of domestic drilling, including ANWR, and coastal areas. In favor of “clean coal” electric generation facilities. In favor of building new nuclear power plants. In favor of free market private investments in sustainable alternative energy sources.

Opposed to:

Artificial propping up of “green” technologies with taxpayer money.Opposes use of crops for bio-fuels such as ethanol when subsidized and when no demand exists legitimately in the free market.

HEALTH CARE REFORM:

In Favor of:

Tort Reform – improve rules against frivolous lawsuits that add millions in costs of malpractice insurance premiums.Allow Insurance providers to sell insurance across state lines thus driving competition.Streamline FDA processes to allow drugs, technologies and treatments to become available without unnecessary bureaucratic expenses.Increase availability and use of medical savings accounts by ensuring all monies spent on or saved for medical purposes is 100% deductible expense for taxes.

Opposed to:

Obama Care – Recent legislation forced through against the will of the American people.Any nationalization of our health care industry.

TAXES:

In Favor of:

Reducing the tax burden on the American working man and woman.Flat tax – All tax payers (and businesses) would pay a flat 11% tax after family member deductions of ($1500 each), and charitable deductions.Creating of one page tax form.Voluntary elimination of employer tax withholding. This would allow tax payers the option to directly issue payment to the federal government.Redirecting of IRS resources from regulating tax payers to an independent agency assigned to police the government’s use of tax payer’s dollars.Reduction of corporate income taxes to generate investment in the United States.Elimination of “death tax”. Reduction in capital gains taxes.

SIZE OF GOVERNMENT:

In Favor of:

Reduction of the size and growth of government.Step One – Freeze spending & stop replacing non-essential positionsStep Two – Reduce government by 20% in 2 yearsAmericans may not be surprised to know that much of the U.S. budget is wasted or used as a means of control over states and local governments and individual citizens.Step Three – Reduce government by 40% in 5 yearsEliminate use and legality of “earmarks” in legislation.

CAP & TRADE:

Opposed to:

Any system such as Cap and Tax designed to provide control over private enterprise by the government, especially those based on the faulty, questionable science of global warming. This program will increase costs of business as well as end services and products to customers. It will drive investment off shore and lead to addition U.S. job losses. This measure would do immense and perhaps irreparable hard to our economy.

GLOBAL WARMING:

Opposed to:

Opposed to the faulty science of climate change, global warming or global cooling or whatever manner this political movement is calling itself currently. There is no concrete evidence that man is causing any shift in temperatures on the earth. This science ignores the role of water vapor and solar activity. It is simply ideological movement designed to require the surrender of control over how we live our lives in this country to an elitist hierarchy that believes they know best for each of us.

ABORTION:

Opposed to:

I am opposed to abortion and support the right to life.I am vehemently opposed to the practice of partial birth abortion that I find abhorrent and grossly inhumane for a civilized people.

BORDER SECURITY:

In Favor of:

Securing America’s borders is paramount to protecting the sovereignty of our nation and defending ourselves during our current war on terror. Open borders place America at risk of attack.Open borders also drain America’s resources by adding burdens to our hospitals, schools and emergency services on behalf of illegal aliens that have entered the country in violation of American law.

EDUCATION:

In Favor of:

Removing the federal government from decisions regarding how our children will be taught, and what they will be taught. Return this to local school boards and the states.Teaching our children reading, writing, arithmetic, history and the sciences. Not the social experimentation currently underway in our schools, such as having students place condoms on cucumbers or learning about families with two dads or two moms. Eliminate the Department of Education – This department was created in the 1970s under then President Carter and has only served to act as a progressive program experiment with our children by holding local schools hostage over promised federal funding. Allow local areas and the states to determine what and how their children will learn, not politicians in Washington.
