My name is Dan Davis and I am a first time candidate for Congress. I am a former soldier and police officer and have served the nation and our local communities for most of my adult life.
I was born in Kentucky to a private in the U.S. Army and his young bride. My parents George and Veronice Davis moved to Toledo for work shortly after my fathers discharge from the service. My mom had 7 children, but one of our sisters was born prematurely and passed due to heart complications. The other 6 of us spanned 20 years! But we all grew up loving and respecting our parents. And despite the lack of money and wearing hand me down clothing we learned love of God, family and country.
My parents loved America and our Dad drove our commitment of service to our nation and community. They taught us the difference between right and wrong, which is why I now have decided to run for office.
During my high school years we moved to Riga, Michigan where I graduated from Blissfield High School in 1978. Seems like a long time ago! But since then, despite living in Aberdeen, Maryland; Riverview & Monroe Michigan; I returned back in 1994 and have remained in the community since. My children have all attended the same schools I did.
I learned my work ethic early by going door to door in elementary school selling GRIT Newspapers; occasionally delivering the Toledo Blade newspaper for a friend and selling Christmas and other cards door to door. As a teenager I bailed straw and hay and raised pigs for extra money. I worked pouring concrete, and later at a gas station during the full service days. Remember those days!
I would work in a factory for a while as I began college as a welder and would later join the union as a UAW member. I went on to drive a truck and worked on reconditioning vehicles until I joined the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. Upon my discharge I worked as a dispatcher for the Sylvania Township Police and later as a police officer for the City of Monroe.
I saw my share of tragedy and hurt in various communities, and have always stood steadfast in my commitment to protect and defend my community and country.
Since my days in the military and law enforcement, I began a career as a security manager and consultant for nearly 20 years. As such I have traveled our nation and the world and have met many people, experienced many cultures and have gained a unique perspective into the wonders of America, as well as the risks we face.
I am also a member of my community having opened or managed several businesses and coached our children in a variety of sports. I am a dedicated father, raising 6 children. And like you I was inclined to simply live my life and take care of my family. But times are clearly changing.
I have grown tired of watching polished politicians from both major parties make promises they have no intention of keeping. Of making promises that bankrupt our country and rob us of our work ethic and force many into lives of government dependence.
Like you I am deeply troubled and concerned that my children will not inherit the wonderful nation that I love and have faithfully served. I can see a future of economic bondage to an increasingly powerful central government and destructive debt burden.
Government’s current spending and program growth is clearly unsustainable. America is on a crash course with destiny and we are on the fast track to mediocrity and lower standard of living. But fortunately I believe that all is not lost, and it is not too late to slow down and change course.
It will not be easy to reduce spending and reduce the size and scope of government; but it must be done. Our government has been corrupted by a liberal progressive movement that has effectively used language and our natural good will to dupe Americans into going along with their agenda. But now we can see where they are taking us; both Democrats and Republicans.
It is time to awaken, America. Join me and allow me the privilege of fighting for you in Washington. I am one of you. I have worked hard and have had my share of ups and downs. Unlike politicians who tell us they “feel our pain”; like you I have lived that pain.
It will take an army of average everyday Americans to put our nation back on the right course. That was the vision of our Founding Fathers. We must return to that vision to insure America remains the great "shining city on a hill".
God Bless You, and may God continue to pour his blessing on the United States of America.
