UNION INVOLVEMENT:
Dan grew up in a union membership home, with both his mother and father as members of local area unions including the UAW. Over the course of his life he has developed tremendous respect for the hard working members of unions. As a union member and leader, he worked to improve working conditions and to enforce contract standards and requirements.
Later as a business owner and manager, he would also come to recognize the issues that face the other side of the table. But his union background insured fairness and a willingness to work to the betterment of all. But he also became aware of the challenges facing union members that are finding their union leadership increasingly hostile towards conservative values that they hold dear. And union members are watching as their leaders take measures and actions that actually hurt the membership and cost jobs and opportunities.
Upon entry into the workforce, Dan became a member of the UAW while working as a welder in a factory located in Toledo, OH.
Later as a police officer, Dan would be a member of the Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) and was voted in as the Vice President of the Monroe Police Officer’s Association during his second year with the department.
The following year he would be elected to President of the Monroe Patrolman’s Association.
